How to have conditional subject lines in a Convio e-mail?

Options

Hey everyone! Back when we had GetActive, it was very easy to create a conditional content subject line within the same message (like if we wanted to send a certain group within our audience a different subject line or test two subject lines against 50% of the audience). However, I haven't been able to find that in Convio. Does any one know if it's possible or if there's some kind of work around to make it work? I know we can send two different e-mails to different groups and compare that, but it'd be fabulous if we could send just one message with multiple subject lines and easily compare. Thanks for your help!

  • Christine,

    You can do so with S-Tags in the subject line, e.g. a conditional on group membership would look something like:

    ]::TRUE::in group 1234::not in group 1234]]

    ... where 1234 is the group ID in question.

    Awesome, Noah, thank you! I didn't realize that S Tags could be applied to subject lines to. Great to know.

    Actually, one more question ... don't subject lines have character limits? If so, do the S Tags count as characters? It seems like that could be hindering.

    The character limit on the subject line field in Convio is 255, so while the conditional would be included in the character count, that should still leave you plenty of characters (228 after the 27 from the example above).

    Hey, so I sent an e-news out yesterday and split the subject line with an s tag per our above conversation, which is awesome, so thank you for helping with that! But now I'm wondering, how do I find the results for this? I see in the deliveries tab the overall open rate, but how can I found out how each subject line performed? I'd like to compare the open rates to see which one did better. Thanks very much!

    Hey Christine,

    If you used a group conditional as I outlined using the S45 tag, then the Group Performance report will provide you the data you're looking for.

    Yes, I did use the S45 tag and created groups for this and everything, but I'm not sure where to find a group performance report? I tried to do some digging but can't seem to find what you mean. Can you explain how to run that? So sorry for all the questions. Thanks a million for your help, Noah!

    If you Manage the Email Campaign in question, then click the Reports tab, you'll see the Group Performance Report in the dropdown of available reports.
