Updating a sustaining gift -- interaction question

Hi - Is there a way to make Convio create an interaction when a sustaining donor changes their monthly gift amount?

I've heard that gift amount changes are NOT defined as interactions - and there does not appear to be a way to report on this within Report Writer.

Here's the business case scenario:

1. A telemarketing call goes out to a group of sustaining donors who are "current" but do not have a successful transaction within the last 6 months.  Please donate again to us and we'll give you a small premium thank-you gift.

2. The donor says, okay, I'd like to start giving again, here's an updated credit card and/or amount I'd like to donate.

3. The rep enters the info directly into the donor's profile within Convio.

4. Next month on the "normal/original" gift date, donor gets charged.

But, without Convio noting any kind of interaction, there is no way for us to "tell" within Convio (and therefore in our offline database of record) that this interaction occured.  And, therefore, no easy way to "award" the thank you gift.

One possible solution would be to have the rep cancel the original sustaining gift and then start a new one.  But, while operationally clean, that offers some reporting challenges.

Any other ideas out there on how to get a gift amount and/or credit card update reported on as an interaction?
