Globally changing email addresses to in-active

Options
We recently did a mass email through online express and received quite a few bounce backs. I'm looking for an easy way to mark those constituent email addresses as in-active. I don't believe I have  the ability to change it globally. Would it have to be done as an import? I didn't anything specific to this in knowledgebase.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

  • John -

If you can create a query of the records and if it's a specific phone type you want to change to inactive, you can use the 'Mark Phones Primary' plug-in to do this.

To get around having different phone types you want to mark inactive, you can use import to change the phone type on records to some 'fake' phone type (DELETE or INACTIVE) and then you can use that fake phone type in the Phone Type dropdown.

Thanks Gina! That's the first time I've seen that particular plug-in. I appreciate the help.

  • John - I didn't know about this plug-in either but learned it from someone else on this Forum - and just passing along what I learned!
  • Now that you can Export from Unusable Emails in OLX, I export that data, then in RE (for me) change the Phone Type to one of our inactive options.

If you're looking at the Response on the Appeals Tab, you want to be careful as Bounced could be a Hard Bounce, which OLX will start excluding, or a Soft Bounce, which could be a valid address that has a full inbox or is temporarily unavailable but could very well receive future messages that you send.  That's why I do the extra step of Exporting from Unusable Emails and then grab the Constituent IDs and paste them into a Query then a Global Change to change the Phone Type (after checking in the Query to be sure they don't have other email addresses of the same Phone Type that are still valid).  Our email list is about 10k, so it's fairly manageable this way.

I like the Plug-In, and would probably use it if we used the Primary and Inactive checkboxes, but we had an existing system that works better for us, and there's no need to duplicate efforts.

Great question! In marking these email addresses as 'in-active' in Raiser Edge, does anyone know if marking 'inactive' will sync over to Luminate Online TeamRaiser?
