Prospect Status Classifications

Does anyone know a way to track the length of time between status of classification changes on the Prospect tab?  ie:  We want to know how long it is taking to go from 'suspect' to 'prospect' to 'donor'. Your feedback is very much appreciated!  Thank you.

It can't be done in RE 7 (as a standard feature--there are lots of jury-rig ideas out there).  It's one of the terrific new features in RE NXT that's been out for a little while now.

  • Hi Bill,

Thank you so much for your reply, it's good to know that RE NXT does have that feature.  It is my hope we will migrate over to that in the future.

I couldn't think of a way to accomplish this task, but there are many creative people in this group and thought it was worth checking out!

    Kind regards,

    Betsie
  • Our consultants suggested having an action type of Change of Prospect (or Classification) Status.  An action would be created each time the status changes.  From that you can calculate how long someone has been in a particular stage.  The consultants have a crystal report that does all the calculations, but we didn't want to spend the money to get it.

Sure Betsie.  I really, really like the new feature.  It keeps the history of changes, you can record on what date the change was made and why, and NXT keeps track automatically of who did it.  It shows the text history as well as a nice timeline bar.  You can set warnings in case someone has been in a stage too long.  And it works with both Prospect and Proposal Statuses this way.  As Anne's answer indicates, and I agree, there are kludgy ways to try to replicate this in RE 7, but they're not easy.  Best to wait and set this up in NXT if you possibly can.

This is very much how I used to track stages at a previous organization.  We used Actions with a category of "Task/Other", a type of "Prospect Stage", and then the status indicated which stage.  The action date represented the date that the prospect entered that stage.  The action was always left open until the prospect moved to the next stage.  The current stage was "closed" by marking the action as complete and using that day's date as the "completed date".  Then a new open action with the new stage was entered.  It worked incredibly well for front-end and back-end (i.e., off a data warehouse) reporting.
