Query or report of the total number of active members for a past date

Is there anyway to get a total number of 'active' memberships for a certain date? For example, we need to know how many total members we had at the end of July. Is there anyway to do this in Raiser's Edge?

    It's not very easy. You basically have to write a query for people who have memberships that expire after that date, but whose memberships started before that date.
