system generated teamraiser donor groups

Options
Wondering if anyone has come across a similar issue to one that we discovered, and, if there are any workarounds that have been developed in the community.

It seems that the system generated donor groups that are automatically built when TeamRaiser's are created capture ALL transaction information for that TeamRaiser (ie. a constituent will be added to that group if they make a donation, pay a registration fee, or purchase an upsell).

The challenge, for us at least, is we would like to use these groups to capture ONLY those who have made a donation to the TeamRaiser. We would like to separate out those who paid a reg fee or upsell (ie. TeamRaiser participants) but these participants do need to be included in the group if they made a donation (either self donation or to another participant or to the event itself). Therefore, a simply query calling for members of the donor group and excluding TeamRaiser participants won't work for our purposes.

Any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Hey Patrick, where and how are you ultimately desiring to use this group?

    Hey Chris,

Thanks for the reply. We use these groups as target groups for our email campaigns and to build Queries (ie. NYD constituents to current TeamRaisers). The catch though, for us, is we'll classify a participant who pays a reg fee as just a participant. If a participant pays a reg fee and makes a self donation then we'll classify them as a participant and a donor.

    Sure thing.

How frequently are you communicating to these people? And to confirm, it's for email campaigns and not TR Coaching Emails? Within coaching emails there is a filter for this audience.

For an email campaign audience, could you "use" a ReportWriter-generated list of people that meet that criteria (registration with self donation) to create a new group to target?

Or potentially conditionalize content within the body of the message using the if-is-self-donor parameter of S48?

Yes, it is for email campaigns. We'll communicate with these groups a few times throughout the course of a campaign....we email them enough, where, ideally, it would be great to have a dedicated dynamic group for these constituents rather than just pulling the info via ReportWriter.

I do like the idea of using the if-is-self-donor tag to target these groups. It seems like it probably works best for what we are trying to achieve. Can you confirm that participants who only pay a registration fee (ie. do not make a self donation) will NOT receive the conditionalized content if we use this tag? Thanks Chris.
