Do you have an event with registrations, upsells or eCommerce store, and registrations? I'm having a hard time breaking down the transaction amounts given primary and secondary registrations, multiple discounts, and different child and adult prices.

We don't really bother to work it all out, and leave the registration fee on the record of whoever paid. We don't count registration fees toward fundraising, so the users haven't complained. We moved to this only fundraising counts as fundraising model a few years ago. So much easier!

In my opinion the reg fees should be set just high enough to cover expenses, so they truly are not 'fundraising'. If that is worrying, then consider using the delayed self-pledge option where fundraisers must meet a minimum or pay the difference themselves. This was made a ton easier to use a few releases ago. I'd set that just high enough to ensure the event isn't a total failure, so the bar isn't set too high and scares off participants. Your top 20% will still go beyond that.
