Excluding Constituents with an active email address in 7.95+

Options
We just converted to RE 7.95 (just in time for 7.96 to be released!) and we've come across a bit of a snag with the new email/phone setup....

How do we exclude people from a query who have an active email address?

That's really it... Exclusions can be a little tricky in queries, and this seems to be throwing us off.  We use Email 1, Email 2 and Email 3 as email types.  We have one email marked primary.  But the conversion to 7.95 also created a ton of inactive email address, all of those Email 1, Email 2 and Email 3 types...

Am I over thinking this?  Underthinking this?

Thomas, this is a good question. I have had difficulty getting RE to output the active or inactive status of a given e mail number.  I played with the problem, and tried this query. I used a liamited date range of constituents, filtered those further by whether or not they had an e mail number, and then by whether the phone (which I hope refers to the e mail) was inactive.  Does this move things along at all?

  • Bob,

Hmm, I still think that's going to toss out people that I might want... Here's what 7.95 essentially did to our phones:

    1ee3b07a6d07bfa2051d7d31846957d7-huge-sa

So if I try to remove anyone with an inactive email, it will remove this constituent.  But I don't want that because this person ALSO has active email addresses.  Worse, they're of the same email type because they're copied from the relationship records.

We've resigned ourselves to basically looking at the 10,000+ constituents with an inactive email address and then changing the Inactive Phone Type to something like "Bad Email 1" and "Bad Email 2"....  Then we can simply query on people who have Email 1, Email 2 or Email 3, knowing that those types are always "active"....

Its a shame we don't have more querying options with the Phone Type Active/Inactive flag.... seemed like a good idea when we first saw it.
  • Thomas -

I ended up removing any phone/email that came over with 'From relationship...' in the comment field.
    • That way I didn't end up with duplicate inactive entries that might conflict with actual active phone/email data.
    • I wanted to keep this data as clean as possible so decided to remove anything that I did not see as a value-add or might possibly create some questions.
