Constituent history in query

Options
We are trying to create a query to determine a mailing list -- we want to try and find out those donors who were lapsed and have renewed during the period.  Want to be able to show the giving history with appeal, gift date and gift amount.  Thank you.

  • Hi Cindy!

I would do this by merging two queries.

First: create a query of all of the lapsed donors from your time period. One easy way to do this is to run the LYBUNT report and select the option to create a constituent query.

Second: Create a query of everyone who gave a gift during the period you're looking at.

Finally: From the main query screen, select 'merge queries' and select your first query, the 'and' operator, and your second query. This should grab everyone who lapsed and that also renewed. Once you have that query, you can select your outputs... though with the outputs you mention that is very likely going to be easier using an export.

    Hope that helps!
  • You definitely want to get your output using Export and NOT using Query -- anytime you are outputting gift information you definitely want to use Export.

I try to go by this basic rule:

    • Only export from a query in order to validate the records the query is finding.
    • Don't export data from a query for any other data uses, use Export instead.

(Of course there are a few exceptions...)
