Check Readers

Does anyone utilize a check reader to scan checks and import information into eTapestry? What is your best practice when you have a stack of 100 or more donations in the form of a check that need to be entered? There has got to be a better way to import hundreds of donations.

  • Hi, Michelle! We use a check reader to scan checks, but we type in the check information manually.

I'm wondering if you can take the check information, export it into an Excel spreadsheet, and then import that spreadsheet into eTap. You'd need at least one matching field (such as the constituent's name and/or address) in the spreadsheet. This would help eTap match each donation with the right donor record.

Does your financial institution do text recognition as it scans checks? That would help.
  • We use a Xerox Documate 5445 scanner and save an image as an attachmnet but have to enter all the information manually.
