Data Entry in Raiser's Edge about US$ and CAN$

Options
I wanted to know how most of people deal with this case.

We are canadian company, always record canadian dollor in RE. If it's US$, we enter converted amount in RE.

My question is that:

We receive cash from one event, some are canadian $, and some are US$. Do you enter donation as one entry or two entries? If one donor give cash CAN$20 canadian and cash US$20 at the same time, how do you enter, one entry or two entries (Canadian $ +US$ Converted)?

  • I would definitely keep them separate.

I have no idea if your organization files a T1030 with CRA (Canadian Revenue Agency), but one of the questions asked in the form is, "Receipted and non-receipted gifts where the donor resides outside Canada".

I think having the extra step to separate your currencies (even if you converted it to CAD) is helpful when you look at the annual giving from the audit/tax side of things.  :)
  • Good idea Joy, thanks! Because they are collection without donor info, we won't issue tax receipt at all.
