What happened with eCommerce stores?

Options
I'm designing a new store and the short descriptions for products are running alongside the product titles instead of underneath. This is pushing the "Add to Cart" buttons beyond the borders of our page wrapper. Did something change on the back end? Can I get this fixed so it doesn't look awful when people visit the site?

  • Hi Ben,

There was an update to how the store worked a few months back (Release 16.1).

There were changes that affected layout though. I noticed this when I created a new store after this update. I opened a case and this is intended functionality. Sometimes I wonder if BB does any user testing.

You can't even hide with CSS.

It is actually the alt text that is being displayed on the left. Here is the last response I received from support:

The text is the alt text for any image that gets added. If an image is used that will be displayed, if no image is used than the text is shown instead to help show what is being purchased. When previewing that store and clicking Purchase on that product, the product name is then shown as no image was provided.

You're either going to get one or the other depending on how the product was configured. The header is an indication of the product being purchased, populating with either an actual image or an "image" composed of the alt text if none was selected.

So the image that is added on the short description.

Your best bet right now is to copy an old store and copy old products to make your store work as it was before. That is what we have done. We are going to investigate using JQuery to handle this issue. I will let ya know once we have a chance to figure that out.

    Thanks,

    Phil
