Copy Preferred Address to Alternate saves the original date added on new address

Options
Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone else has looked at the properties of an address after copying the preferred address to alternate.

we have found that the address that gets made invalid and former is showing in the properties the current date as the data added and the NEW address that has is now the preferred address is showing the date added as the original.

Example:

1 smith street was added on 01/01/2016

I copied that address to the alternate and added the new address of 2 jones avenue on 03/03/2016

when we go into the properties of each address it shows:

1 smith street was added on 03/03/2016

2 jones avenue was added on 01/01/2016

It was our understanding that when you copy the preferred address to alternate it is because you have a new address that you want to update.

This messes with a query that I have looking for newly added addresses as the preferred address is still showing that it was added in January when it was actually added in March.

For reference we are using a Hosted RE environment.

  • Yes, it’s always worked this way.  My
understanding is that RE is creating the old address as a new
address record and it gets the new system date and the new address
you added keeps the original date since you are updating that
address record.  This is why we always populate the Date From
(which for us represents the date we added the record), since you
can’t rely on the date it was created.

The only other option is to Add new address
and then you have to make sure you check the appropriate boxes,
change the old to Former, uncheck send mail, etc.  Since
people forget to do all these steps we use the “Copy Preferred
Address to Alternate” functionality that causes this system date
    problem.
