Soft Credit Determination for Business Owners

Hi everyone.  Does anyone have a policiy/procedure in place they would be willing to share with me regarding determining who to soft credit when receiving checks from businesses?  We have a lot of business owners in our system, but we don't have a procedure in place to determine who should be soft credited.  Sometimes it's obvious or outright stated, but other times not.  A donor may tell us the first time a gift is given, but nothing is mentioned on subsequent gifts. Most of the time, our annual giving director would just verbally tell us "so and so" needs to be soft credited.


I am about to train a new gift entry person who doesn't know any of that donor history.  How can I ensure that we capture correct soft credit info moving forward?

  • In the relationships tab, you can mark "automatically soft credit" the relationship/ person.


    We do this for all our board member companies, and for our donor advised funds.

    Takes the guess work out of "most" of the soft credits.
