Analyzing date differences in Proposal status changes

Options
I currently do some signficant reporting regarding the current staus levels for a group of Major gift officers.

this gives me a sdnap shot of where the proposals are currently.

I can also do an analysis of actions showing current status with last action date, and i could do one showing last status level change.

But what i am looking to do is a little mroe in depth.

I would liek to analyse how long it takes for each level move and where that ends.

by example

If it takes greater that 100 days to move from level 1 Qualification to level 2 Cultivation, is it more likely that they will move next to level 3 Top Prospect, or level 9X - Closed No gift?

if it takes less than 100 days?

And ultiamtely there are a number of questions that can be asked if we know the timestamps of each of the moves in status, and can we also tie that back to the actions assocaited with the proposals?

Maybe i am just thinking this is more complicated than it needs to be, but i am defintely stymied by this right now.

Any and all help appreciated...

Thanks

  • Ric,

The only way we could figure out how to do this was to create a note on the proposal reflective of each type of status (Qualification, Cultivation, Solicitation, Pending Repsonse) with the note date equal to the effective date of the status.  If you pull that into an EXCEL spreadsheet, you can build some formulas that calculate how much time has passed between the stages (and between today's date and the effective date of the most recent stage).

If anyone else has a more graceful way of doing this, I'd love to hear about it as well!

  • I would think that you could use either Proposal Attributes or Proposal Actions to track dates of different changes in the Proposal Status.  We're not in a position currently to even consider doing this, but I think I would use one or the other, depending on how much data you want to collect (i.e. simple "on this date, moved from level 1 to level 2" could be an Attribute but "on this date, solicitor ___ moved this proposal from level 1 to level 2 and changed the focus from program A to program B" would be an Action).

I do wish that Proposals had an ID (like Constituents & Gifts) that was auto-populated when entering a new record.  That sadly not being the case, I recommend also adding a Proposal ID of some sort to either the Name field or a Proposal Attribute.  Then, when you pull all of your data to analyze it, you'll have an easy way of grouping the data that belongs to each Proposal.

Or am I completely off the mark and not understanding what you're trying to do?
