Alumni module question

In recent years, we've had alums return to get a second undergraduate degree. I'm wondering what others do in these cases. Which one should be made primary?  Thanks!

    Hi Robin

We do have some of them but mostly a lot that come back and get their Master's.  For each the newest degree goes in Relationship under Education -- so for example if they got a BS degree in 2006 and then came back in 2012 to get another one the 2012 degree would go in the Relationship area and the 2006 degree remains the primary.   I wish Raiser's Edge would have just one spot for all education so you didn't have to pull from two seperate area's and not have a primary.

I keep the first degree they received from our school as their primary. Then I have an entry under Addressees/Salutations for how to list people in our annual report. I edit that to show all their degrees, so we could have someone that reads, "Jane Brown Smith BA '85 BSN '90 MSN '95."

I have had people ask why they can't see all the degrees from the Bio 1 tab so I'm slowly training them to look at the Relationship tab to get a full picture of someone's education background.

I would say the most recent attendance should be the primary, since that is the highest degree earned at your institution or the last degree earned.

First degree from our institution is the primary education record. Most of our students who come back for a second degree (a second undergraduate degree or master's degree) do so as older, non-traditional students and their connection to us is stronger through that first degree. We have a business rule that checks for more than 1 degree from Worcester State which pops up when opening a record. The Advancement office finds it useful.

    My 2 cents,

We have alumni with AS, BS and Masters so our procedure are as:

BS takes primary over an AS or a masters

Masters takes primary over a AS

If they received 2 degrees in one type but in different years, then the primary is the first received.
