limitation applying pledges to cash gift

Options
Hello!

I posted a similar conversation previously but it is more around workplace giving then this particular question so I thought this subject line would be better

It is still workplace giving related however

When we get a check for workplace giving - lets say it is from IBM - we put a cash gift on the company record then soft credit all the individual donors that contributed to that check

80% of the time we know the individual donors have pledged $XX total for the year to give to us through their company and we want to put a pledge on their record for that amount to count it toward giving clubs for our annual report (we have been doing it as a Designation / Other gift type but that has been creating problems for annual report acknowledgement)

The issue I'm running into is there seems to be a limited amount of pledges you can put towards a single cash gift - seems to limit 8 - and I have some checks that have up to 25 different individuals

I have a call with support to discuss this but wondered if anyone else has ever had to deal with something like this

Is there a setting in Business Rules or somewhere in config where you can increase the number of pledges you can put toward a cash gift?

Thanks for any help/advice

  • I would suggest putting the gifts on the individual's record and soft crediting the company unless it is a matching gift. We don't put pledges in unless we have a signed agreement from the donor. I expect there would be a lot of write-offs and clean up if we tracked employee giving with pledges.

I'm on the same page with Sunshine Watson.  Workplace giving is a gift from an individual(s) and the company is just the conduit for receiving the funds.  I would be recording the gift on the individual record with a note that it came through a workplace giving program at Whatever Company.  If you are asking about multiple peeps reflected on one check disbursement, that is fine, just enter their gift amount on their record and make a 2nd, 3rd and however many other entries on the other individual records with same check date, number, note.  I also make the Appeal on these Workplace Giving.  Easy to spot and pull in queries and reports.  I also do not put pledges in for these folks, makes for too much clean up.  You never know what calendar cycle they are on and so are not sure when or if you should be writing stuff off or adjusting up or down.  And without a signed pledge form, it does not go in RE is the rule.
