Sign up forms

Has anyone tried using an event registration form as a sign up form.  At least you can collect more information such as address, phone, and whatever attributes you want.  I'd like to hear about the pros and cons of doing this.

Thanks,

  • Yes, we've done this with good success. Haven't really found any "cons" except of course that you have to keep a "junk" Event record for the Event form to link to. We put "Subscribe" ("sign me up to receive email updates") as the free Registration price type and left the receipt option un-checked. Also added an "I would like to receive email updates" required Attribute under the Field Options tab of the form. Works well for us.
  • What a great idea!  Didn't ever think of that.  I've been looking for a way to make a more robust sign up form that can replace our current Foster Care Inquiry Form.  Although that form is emailed to 4 staff members when submitted, so I'm not sure OLX will do that...but it would be great not to have to copy-and-paste each line of the emailed data into an RE Note (select-all does funky things with formatting and means the resulting Note/paste isn't legible).

Faith, would you please consider posting a link to your sign up page so we can see what it looks like?
  • Hi Mary,

I use the OLX Event forms for my newsletter
sign up; as well as my volunteer sign up.  It is great as all
of the information gets processed right into the
system.   You will have to set up an event in RE first,
make sure you put individual with $0.00 under prices.  When
you go to download the information, it processes into RE without
creating a batch, as there is no money involved.   Hope
    this helps.

We don't have it active right now because we're in process of re-designing our website with a completely new vendor. But I'm happy to share a couple of screenshots of the form preview. It's pretty basic - all we ask for is name and address basically. If you want to copy four different staff members on the email I believe you can simply enter their email addresses under the Event form's "Thank you's" tab -- "Receive email notifications for new donations".

  • I do like that using the event form would give you the opportunity to gather more information.

One question comes to mind however.... If someone opts-out of an OLX email, the only way to get them back in the system should they change their mind down the road, is to have them re-sign up on the sign up form. If you are using an event form for sign-ups, how does that work with reinstating opt outs so they can receive future OLX emails?

Addendum:  Also....when using the sign-up form, the email gets verified before you add it to your system, eliminating spam or robo entries - and yes we have had those. If you use the event registration form, you lose this verification step.
