Email added to Appeals Tab - Best Practices

Options
We recently moved from NetCommunity to Online Express. Does anyone have recommendations/best practices on what emails to add to the appeals tab? We're torn whether things like event invites or newsletters should be added.  At the same time I don't want to lose the performance data. Thoughts?

  • I think your approach to OLX should reflect your overall data management strategy in RE. For instance, when you send out a mailed invitation or newsletter, do you record it on the Appeals tab as well?  Data history on the Appeals tab should be consistent across all media channels, so if you are not already recording your snail-mail invitations there, you should either 1) not record your email invites there either, or 2) begin recording snail-mailings, too. As far as keeping the performance data, the summary data is always available in OLX (# of hits, opens, etc.), even if the individuals' responses are not as transparent.

As far as our Org's own practices, I think recording invitations makes sense, but we have begun sending out so many informational emails (2-3 a week sometimes, to our Alumni), that recording all of that on our Appeals tab, when these emails do not solicit a call to action, would be way too cluttered.
  • If you prefer that data to be elsewhere, you can always push it from OLX to RE as an Appeal, then move it to where you want it (i.e. Event Participant Records), then Global Change to delete the Appeal, and there you go...no duplicate location for data, not cluttering your Appeals Tab, and you have the relevant information in RE.  But it would be an investment of time to do this.

You may also want to visit the OLX Idea Bank and look for (or add) Pushing Data from OLX to RE Events and/or Actions...give Users the choice of where to push that data to.  If you find or post something in the Idea Bank related to this discussion, be sure to put a link in this thread so others can find and vote for the Idea.
