Attaching a document to an email

Options
I am new to OLX. My first email to constituents included a documnet attachment. What is the most user friendly way to attach a document? I was advised to attach the document from dropbox. I received some complaints that the document was difficult to open.

  • My understanding has been that in the case of mass emails, like those handled by OLX, it is best practice Not to include attachments for an email. Attachments require recipients to download a potentially questionable document, and many users are leery of them because they are the most frequent source of email-transmitted viruses.

If you need to provide an additional document to your recipients, I would suggest that the best (and most user-friendly way) is to include a link in your email which directs them to a web page with the information, rather than providing an attached Word document. If the information is of a sensitive nature, you can restrict the security on the web page so that people can only access it from the link you send, or (for even more security) after creating a login for your website.
  • Here's an answer from Blackbaud...that essentially says what F Murray said.  =)
  • I totally understand BB's decision not to include attachments in email campaigns.  But I have to say it does save time when you have the ability to attach a documents, rsvp's, etc.  My organization previously used Constant Contact (for 4 years) and that program allows you to attach documents, pdf's, etc., and we never had any issues in the 4 years we used Constant Contact.  We only switched to OLX because of a contract issue...converting from NetCommunity Spark.
