Constiuents Fundraisers

Options
Hello -

I would like to know how you/your organization track constiuents who host fundraisers for your organization.

This could be a fundraiser they implement through an outside entity (ie, crowdfunding/peer to peer sites such as firstgiving, justgive, etc.); companies who provide portion of proceeds; individuals who host personal fundraisers; etc.

I am considering using the "Is a Solicitor" box on Bio1 tab. But, i am concerned could cause complications if the same constituent gives as themselves as well. The only other method I can think of is to add a constituent code of "fundraiser". We currently mark the gift to a fund of "fundraiser" to ensure proper acknowledgement (no tax receipt).

Thank you in advance for sharing.

Cheers,

The solicitor option would work for this.  If the person gives themselves the gift could be assigned to themselves as the solicitor, another solicitor or no solicitor. I don't see a conflict in that aspect.

Putting a relationship of solicitor for the gifts they bring in will give you a way to report on their total raised and provide a good way to track if you want to report on $ raised.

If you just want to be able to identify these people as fundraisers for you, then the constituent code may make more sense if that is why they are in your database and it's the only relationship they have with your org.

I'm assuming you know when and when not to include tax statement for funds these individuals raise.  Not going to go there for this post.

I agree with your suggestion of using the solicitor assignment.  I would like to think the fundraiser has some "connection" to the organization if they are willing to host a fundraiser or solicit donations.

I'd like to offer another solution for consideration. It is what we use for our Phonathon gifts. I created a constituent record called Captain Phonathon.  You could create a Corporal Fundraiser or whatever title you like. Have fun with it.

All gifts acquired via the Phonathon calls get attributed to that solicitor.  There are a few more layers of tracking we use, but I'm not sure they would be necessary for this scenario.  However, if you will ever need to report on these gifts it might be worth it to create an appeal for the fundraising itself. If you just need a basic report you can run one on that solicitor.
