Educational and employment details on Raiser's edge

I am part of the information systems team at the RCSI in Ireland. I am inquiring as to the alumni information capturing proceses used by other universities. I am wondering what processes are used for capturing employment and educational details on Raiser's Edge in particular.

    Where to record it and the process of how it is recorded in RE

  • We have the Alumni module which allows us to designate a primary education record. That means there is a button on the Bio 1 tab that says "Education" which takes the user to the constituent's primary education. For our university, that's us. So if we have a constituent record for a friend (someone who didn't attend our university), nothing will show under that Education button on Bio 1. But you can still see any and all other colleges/universities on the Relationship tab.


    We put all the employment info we have on the Relationships tab as an Organization relationship. Right now we don't reciprocate with Organziation constituents because our Org Relationship records are getting out of control (the exception would be if the alumnus is also a person we would contact for fundraising, like the President or Grants Manager). Their current employer is marked as the primary with a relationship type of "Employer" and reciprocal type of "Employee." For past jobs, we use relationship type "Former Employer" and reciprocal "Former Employee," as well as use the date from and date to (if we can).

    Just updated my post with employment info. All of this will go on the Relationships tab.

  • Under the Relationships Tab you should be capturing or they should have already captured for Alumni, your insititution as the Primary Alumni info, and if your org captures where they transferred or came from, that school can also be recorded, also the school they may have gone to after yours.  If you are asking about specific fields?  All schools I have been at minimally record/capture, the School Name, Graduation Year, and major (if a university), and Degree earned or earning.


    for Employer info:  that should go under Organzation Relationship.  And if it is their current employer, the Primary Business Info should be checkmarked.  Minimal fields usually captured are Name of Org/Business, org/biz address, Relation/Reciprocal and Date From (I use today date because you usually do not know when they started the job unless they are an employee of Your Org). 


    It is helpful, you don't see it immediately, is to make the Address Source and From Date required fields.  under Org and personal addresses
