How to track information in events module for shared events

Hello Fellow RE users,


We are hosting our annual golf tournament with another local non-profit.  We have an agreement that one of us will handle all the fiscal responsibilities and events module tracking and at the end we will divind monies down the middle adn split the profit.  The thing is year to year we never know who obtained what sponsors.  This year we want to track our sponsors and golfers we obtain, but we do not want to mess up our system.  We also were not sure how we would create the fund and appela for our tracking becuase we do not want our fiscal department to accidentally consider this revenue and we double count at the end.

Are you tracking solicitors? It seems to me you could simply add the organization in the solicitor field, if you aren't already using it (or, if you are, would each solicitor have a relationship with just one of the nonprofits?).

You could also track by adding an attribute to the gift/event record.

I'm not entirely sure what the concern is about your accounting and not double-counting the money, but I do have a suggestion for your sponsor issue.


We create appeals for every event every year, and we track the intention of the gift as a package (e.g., Appeal = GalaFY16, package = CP (corporate)). If some sponsors are giving a gift for you and others are giving a gift for another org, you could have packages that relate to each of those instances (e.g., CP-US and CP-THEM). 


You could do the same thing for registration fees (admit-US; admit-THEM), or you could create different registration fees, one for you and one for them. The fees are identical, but which one gets applied to whom depends on the avenue of approach. You could have a third one that indicates a registration of unknown origin. It's certainly more data entry work, but you would be able to query on it and do analysis based on it.


If I'm missing the mark altogether, let me know and explain the problems in a bit more detail.
