Discount code for Primary but not secondary registrants!

We are working with one of our sponsors and they are only wanting to pay for their employee's registration and not family members.  Is there any way to have the system not honor the code on secondary registrations?  We do not see any setting and support says that there is not a function that does that.  Has anyone played with coding something like this?
