Gift Reference not merging

Options
I'm trying to set up letter templates in Config but I'm running into a weird problem. My acknowledgement letter includes the Reference field from the Gift record and while I am able to select it and use it in the template, no data is populating when I test it on a gift record. Has anyone run into this before? I can't tell if I'm missing something or if this is a system-unique error. The record I am testing with definitely has text in the reference field.

A gift export contains 2 similarly named fields: Reference (which is the field at the top right of the gift screen) and Reference Number (which is the one in the bottom right and has an associated date field). Have you definitely included the correct field in your letter? I know that's something we've had confusion over in the past!
  • Hi Alan,

Thanks for the suggestion! I double checked and we definitely have the correct Reference field, so unfortunately it's not that. I also tried testing multiple similarly designed letters on a few different gifts and reference isn't pulling for any of them. Must be something about our system as a whole.

  • Check Bio2 for the Constituent.  Are they set for "One receipt per gift" or "Consolicated receipts"?  If Consolidated then the system wouldn't know which particular Gift to use for the Reference field.
  • Thank you to everyone who responded!

It turned out that I needded to delete that field from the letter and add it back in again. Since I changed the letter several times as I was building it something just got stuck in the background that was preventing it from pulling correctly. Quirky but totally fixable.
