E-receipt setup using MAPI in Raiser's Edge

Options
Does anyone know of a way to use the e-receipt function in Raiser's Edge if your institution uses MAPI (Microsoft Exchange) -- and does NOT use SMTP technology?  I spoke with BB Support and they indicated that RE needs the SMTP protocols to work and that it won't function with MAPI.  I'm just curious if anyone has found another way to do this.  We would really like to use an e-receipt feature for gifts under $10.  Thank you!

  • The Exchange Server uses MAPI to communicate
    between your client software (probably Microsoft Outlook) and the
    exchange server.  The Exchange Server uses SMTP to communicate
    with the rest of the world.  Therefore, you should be able to
    connect RE to the SMTP Send connector via the RE Admin->Business
    Rules->Mail Options.

    We set up a general mailbox to send all RE
    related mail.  This way anyone with access to RE may send
    receipts.  Also your constituents will reply to his email if
    they have questions (even if you put Do Not Reply in the “from”
    address.  You can then assign write privileges to one or more
    users to handle these replies.  You can then add this mail box
    to your outlook client.  It will show up as a different
    Mailbox (Inbox) in outlook.

    You will need the FQDM (fully qualified domain
    name) that the exchange administrator assigned to the SMTP Send
    Connector.  It may look like SMTP.YourMailServers.ORG

    AND the port number assigned (usually 25)

    An SMTP username of the general mailbox

    A password for the general mailbox

    And whatever text you wish to appear in the
    “From” address along with the actual address.  “Central
    Piedmont Community College Foundation”  would send something
    like:

    Central Piedmont Community College Foundation
    <TheAddressOfTheMailBox@CPCF.ORG>

    Hope this helps.
