Event transactions posting to open pledges

I’m having an issue that when an active constituent that has an open pledge purchases tickets to an event when the transaction is processed it will apply it to the open pledge. Has anyone had this issue before? Am I not doing something correctly during the processing of the transaction?

Does this happen even if you do not have the Batch set up with the option to "automatically apply to pledges & recurring gifts"?
