Migrating sustaining donors to Convio & supressing the welcome series

Options

We got a great question about migrating sustaining donations over from another system to Convio and how to handle communications with these constituents once their gift is set up in Convio.  I wanted to share this post in Community in case it's helpful to other organizations as well.

**Question**

e-mails as I modify their records.

Then, once I have done them all, I would like to do a special e-mail to this group.

After this is done, I could disband the group and just have them in the regular donor group.

Let me know if this makes sense, or whether you think there is an alternative way of accomplishing this, or where I might find

a place to designate them to not receive any e-mails for some period of time.

I guess another way would be to uncheck the box that authorizes them to receive any e-mail at all, while I am making the changes, and then

reauthorize it, or would this still trigger them receiving the welcome series after I turn it back on???

We have a good solution to this problem and you're right on track with the group assigment upload.  I will stress that we definitely do not want to uncheck the "accept email" box.  That should be left checked so that these constituents can receive other email communications sent from Convio.

You'll first want to start with creating a group; you may want to call it something along the lines of "Migrated Sustaining Gifts" or "Moved Sustaining Donors".  Once you have that group created, go ahead and do a group assignment upload to place these constituents into the group you created.  After that is complete, we'll want to modify the two welcome series message queries to "not include" the sustaining donor group you created.  Let us know once the group is created and we can help you modify the queries.  Modifying the query will allow us to supress the group without having to modify the recurring message deliveries.

Post back if you have any other question on the topic.

Hope this helps!
