Nice timing. I'm just finishing up a project that uses custom interactions.


It's our Social Media Ambassador program. The idea is to try to coordinate and direct our social media champions. Communications wanted a sign-up page with a few initial activities that visitors could perform.


I built a workflow starting with a sign-up survey, and then several steps: like our pages, share a link, and use our images/avatars. Each step sends a custom interaction when completed.

Then each month we email them and direct them to a page with assorted tasks they could perform. New tasks get added regularly, so setting up new ones needed to be easy. Each task type also has a custom interaction. I ripped off the Blackbaud Champions page a bit here!

Note: Also in progress.


Some comments:


It's a bummer that there isn't an S-Tag to get the interaction count for a specific type. That would be handy for emailing their progress.


Sending interactions via the API needs a fresh sign-in, a cookie login won't do.


It's also a drag for this project that only the Facebook API has a proper callback. The Twitter and LinkedIn tasks need a 'I did this task' button click to send the interaction.
