Relationship Note only appearing on one record

Options
I'm setting up a bunch of relationships back to an org record.

When I create the org relationship from the individual's record to the Organization record, I am recipricating the relationship.

And that part works.  BUT, the note I add to the relationship only appears when viewed from the indiv record, not from the org record. Why?!?

Example:

Good morning!

So, here's my question of the day...

I open Mrs. Smith's record and create and Org relationship with the Housing Committee.  On the relationship, I add a note that tells who recommended this assignment.  When I save the relationship, I say yes when asked about recipricating.

When I view the relationship from her record, the note is there.  When I open up the relationship from the Housing Committee record, there's no note.

Am I doing something wrong?  Or is RE just weird?

  • What version of RE are you running?
  • We're hosted, so the latest and greatest...7.95
  • We're on 7.93 and I just tested and got the same result.

When you create linked reciprocoal Relationships there are two separate Relationship records created that get linked to each other.  Some of the information is linked and will update if changed on one record, but not all.  That Note field is unique to each Relationship record.
  • John is correct, even on 7.95 (i.e. nothing has changed).  I believe this function is operating as intended...even though it seems like it could, and in many cases, should, be the opposite.

    Hi Shani!

John and Jennifer are exactly right. Linked relationships are actually two records, and Notes and Attributes are specific only to the relationship record they are found on. So in this case, if a note is needed on both relationship records, it would need to be added to both sides.

The idea is that a note on Mrs. Smith's relationship record may need to be different from the Housing Committee's since a relationship is a two-way street. This is different from address information, which can be shared, or name information, which is pulled directly from the constituent record.

    I hope this helps!
  • It does...It's still annoying, but it does :-)
