Report with Subreports Not Working?

Options
We have a few newly designed custom reports in Crystal that have subreports in them. They work fine in Crystal, but when we try to run them as Custom Reports within RE, we error out, with RE saying it can't find table "X." Has anyone else run into this issue? Or better yet, solved it?

We are hosted, and are also wondering if it's a hosting issue, or if it affects all of RE?

Thanks!

  • Are the subreports using the same data file as the main report?

In one case, no; in another case, yes. In the case where they're both using the same data file, the subreport is embedded.

For subreports with a different data file, I always have to run those outside of Raiser's Edge. I have some with the same datafile, and  those run with no problem from custom reports.
  • I can't remember whether the error message was the same but we had a similar issue, with custom reports working when run in Crystal but not in RE.

The problem eventually turned out to be the way the exports were being pointed to the network drive we were saving them on. Once we changed the format of all the export file names so that they used the UNC path rather than the mapped drive letter, everything worked fine.

    e.g. in the format \\\\server123.example.ac.uk\\folder\\another_folder\\database.mdb

    rather than J:\\folder\\another_folder\\database.mdb
  • Thanks for your suggestion, Alan. Will try that!

Also discovered: with the same data file, the report actually runs fine within RE if and only if you configure the Custom Report under an Administrator account first. I have no idea why, but it worked!

Using the same trick with separate data files, as Marie notes, doesn't work. The report actually runs, but the data for the subreport is strangely absent!
