using GA url builder for email campaigns

Options

Does anyone know if you can use GA url builder to alter the convio url for an email campaign? Or how to do it. How would you alter what the convio generated url is for an email? Wanting to track email campaigns in GA.

Thanks

  • Yes, you can add Google tracking code using the URL builder, but I'm curious why you are thinking of doing this.  The Google tracking will never be 100% accurate in terms of revenue tracking - it can't see declined, refunded, or recurring transactions - whereas you could simply have a designated donation form per email.  This would then give you pretty reliable stats on your donation revenue.

The one strength to using the Google tracking code would be catching donations from users who click somewhere on the email, go to a non-donation page on your website, then click around and eventually get to a completely different donation page.

If you prefer to use the Google tracking, all you need to do is visit: http://www.google.com/support/analytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55578

    1) Enter the landing page address on your site that you want to track in "Website URL" (you can simply copy and paste this from your email html code)

    2) Define your proper source coding for Step 2

    3) Generate your URL in Step 3

    4) Copy and paste the new URL into the proper href spots in your email

    Hope that helps,

    Matt

I think I was confused and kind of realized that what I was wanting to do will work just fine in Convio reporting.

Thank you for your help, I did find it useful!
