Recurring email series / welcome / lapsed series

Options
Are there any risks associated with sending a recurring email daily to a relatively small (changing) audience?  I.e. sending recurring delivery of welcome messages daily vs. weekly?  Just curious if the smaller audience would pose a risk to spam %'s or if there are benefits associated with bulking up the audiences for those deliveries / sending weekly ?

Thanks,

  • Hey there Ryan, we are looking into your questions and have an answer for you shortly!
  • Hi!

I'm wondering the same. Did you ever find an answer?

    Thanks!
  • Ryan, we have a 'welcome' series of emails setup for all new constituents as well as many other triggers - have not seen any negative impact with this as of yet however some domains (ex. yahoo) are harder to manage than others. For reference we sent ~900K emails over the last 30 days.

    Hi Chelsea!

We currently have a welcome series going out to non-donors that sign up to receive communications with us through our website. We have it set up so that way the first email goes every Wednesday to out to people that signed up the prior week, giving us time to do any duplicate identification and other cleaning. It's a really small list - one welcome series email will go to between 5 and 30 people every delivery.

In terms of deliverability, these emails typically see between 30% to 50% open rates, and we have been able to use these smaller audiences to quickly and easily identify bad domains and spam risks thanks to the new reporting tool. We have outliers where open rates may be very low one week, but our open rate average for the month typically remains high. I know that in a previous incarnation of our welcome series something went awry and it was sent to people who had been with us for a while. It was prior to my involvement so I don't know the details there, but I do know that the current incarnation is very filtered to focus on a very narrow and specific set of criteria so that we don't repeat past mistakes.
