Envelope printer suggestions

Options
Hi folks,  After a lovely 6-year run, our Pitney Bowes envelope printer recently bit the dust.  With repair looking less & less likely & the costs of even trying going through the roof, we are looking to replace our dedicated envelope printer for our in-house mailings.

We have a total of about 70,000 constituents in the database to give an idea of what our volumes could be.  Some of our mailings are done by a mail house but others we do right here. We are currently being quoted upwards of $10,000 for a comparable envelope printer and that is a bit if a problem for us.  Looking to see what other folks are using for mid-to-high-volume envelope printers. (We only need black & white printing & it does not need to also do postage)

Online reviews of Neopost don't seem great, for example.  Hasler looks to be a reasonable competitor to Pitney Bowes, but I am not sure how the prices might compare or what actual CUSTOMERS think.  And of course, we need whatever we get to work well with the mail functions and merges produced through Raiser's Edge.

Any experiences or suggestions you may have while we figure out how to proceed will be appreciated.

Thank you,

  • We use one of the older model Rena printers that we bought used.  It is like a locomotive!  It never skips a beat.  We have been using and abusing it for 10 or more years.

    Thank you for your response.

  • While not an envelope printer per say, my CB516A from HP is doing a great job with the envelope feeder attachment.
  • Would you mind sharing the volume you are able to print with one of these? That particular model is no longer available, but my assumption was that a regular Laser printer would have a lot of issues with envelopes when doing bulk mailings.   Thanks.
  • I am envious because I have not used one of these bulk envelope printers.  How nice it must be... I will say that even with an envelope feeder attachment, trying to print hundreds or thousands of envelopes has typically been time consuming even without jams or other issues.  It just takes time.
  • Thank you all for the feedback. For anyone interested, we decided to go with "the devil that we know," so to speak.  We have opted to purchase a DA50s from Pitney Bowes. The last one we had (although the DA55s- color version) kept us going for about 6 years and we are hoping this one will be just as good.  We are definitely opting for a SERVICE AGREEMENT this time around and we will also need to remember to budget for a replacement before we get to end-of-life on this machine.  Consider our lesson learned.
