A donor establishes a fund and wishes to receive reports with regards to who donates into it?

Hi all,

A donor X establishes a fund and wishes to receive reports with regards to who donated into this fund. Privacy issues aside, let's assume all donors into this fund consent to letting donor X know about their individual gifts, can this be done in real time in Raiser's Edge? I understand that running periodic reports is the norm but I've been asked if there is a way to have R.E. report out whenever a gift is made into a fund to notify donor X (I know this is a bit of stretch and frankly I think it's originating from an online peer to peer functionality but I'm just asking this anyway because they are asking me).

Thank you all in advance.

Best,

Rodrigo

I know of no way to do that automatically in RE (we don't use all modules so there's a chance it's there, but don't think so).

Also, if it's immediate, how do/will you know that donor has consented?

Any reports we've ever done like this to anyone other than solicitor and their assigned prospects, we've only included names and a total amount.

  • First, I would think donor information is kept confidetial. Having said that - I would create a fund with the donor's name and filter on just that fund in a Financial Detail and Summary report.

Oooo, I'd think twice about a fund with donor's name.  As fund is one of the key financial/accounting links, I'm hesitant to create any more than necessary or for a very limited number of gifts when there are other options.  Our fund lists are already getting long to me.  Personally, I think there would be fields like gift code, gift attributes, appeal, package, etc.  that one could use if necessary.

    Hi Kathy,

I think this falls under the period reporting but I'm refering to "real time" alerts. I came from an organization that used Blackbaud CRM and we had that capability. Not sure Raiser's Edge has it but I'm trying to find out. But good idea as an alternate. :)

    Hi JoAnn,

I thought so. We used Blackbaud CRM at my old employer and there was the possibility for "real time" alerts. I guess this functionality doesn't exist in R.E. :(

  • How about a Dashboard that is linked to a query that looks for new gifts just to that specific fund or purpose?  You can export the dashboard with a click.  The notification to the person who set up the fund should not include amounts, only names.  They may want to send them a personal thank you.  Reminds me of Memorial Endowments that are set up and the family wants to be notified of who gave.  You can give a total amount given YTD.
  • Not real time, but if you have the Queue module you can automate an export of the report. If you have the Queue module and are NOT hosted by Blackbaud, you can even have the exported report automatically emailed to Donor X on whatever schedule you specify (weekly, monthly, etc.).

I think the idea is that this organization is managing their own donor advised funds (hypothetical). This is seperate from receiving money from donor advised funds like Fidelity, Community Foundations, etc.
