Fulfillment Tracking and Management?

How are people handling ecommerce order fulfillment?

Seems like all Convio offers is a canned report or two. What happens when you are getting 10, 20 or more orders a day? I can't believe people are managing shipping dates and tracking numbers, back orders and all that in their heads.

I've found a couple of third party solutions, presumably Convio could be made to sync, but they really seem like overkill. All we really need is basic stuff: a way to mark an order shipped, back-ordered, cancelled and so on. Tracking info would be nice too.

  • Hi Brian,

Many organizations outsource their fulfillment -- often to the same vendor that does fulfillment of their direct mail premiums.  The company that I have worked with in the DC area is AMI (amidirect.com).  They have an in-house fulfillment system that tracks inventory, back orders, shipping, etc.  They import data from Convio into their system and then track everything from there.  Granted, the organization i worked with handled thousands of transactions a day in their busiest season, so a solution this robust was necessary for them.

    Hope this is useful...

We might do dozens on a busy day, if that.

Out of curiosity, is the import done with a sustom DataSync like the RE Connector, or with reports?

We had some very unique business rules and so we were using a custom report, that worked more like a data sync in that once you ran it, transactions were flagged so that they could never be downloaded twice.  If you're looking at less than 50 transactions a week, it may be simple enough to manage using an excel spreadsheet with some additional fields added for your internal tracking.

    Thank you, very interesting.

    Boy, that sounds familiar!
