unpublish or expire action alerts?

Hi all,

If we have active alerts on our site that I want to take down, is it better to 'unpublish' them or go in and set them to expire the same day?  Unpublish seems easier (1 click), but they then are listed as drafts, which could get confusing/annoying.  Does either method affect reports/stats on the alert?  Any other pros or cons?  Thanks.
