Can we turn off extended mail merge and if we do - can we do that by seat holder?

We have extended mail merge set up in our Common Ground system. Our call center is having trouble with emails and wants to discontinue the extended function but we are concerned that it will also disable for all users. Is there a way to have regular mail merge for some users and extended for others?
