Strange campaign data in Google Analytics

Options

I've been seeing some very strange data in Google Analytics for a number of our clients who are using Convio.  We haven't been able to identify the cause, and it's been going on for several months, so I'm curious if others are having the same problem.

When I look at traffic from campaigns, there are a significant number of visits that have another organization's campaign tags. They appear to be coming from emails from HRC.  The traffic is otherwise normal - low bounce rates, high time on site, arriving at real landing pages.  But the campaign codes are ones that are clearly related to HRC's mission, not the missions of the organizations where the data is appearing.

Has anyone else seen similar traffic in your Google Analytics reports, from campaign codes that aren't your own?

  • I was pretty sure I would not see any of this, as I do not use the Convio site options for setting up Analytics. (I put the code in my PageWrapper manually.)

Nonetheless, I just noticed a few hits from a campaign called...

    campaign: senatecall

    source: hrcorg

The hits from this senatecall campaign seem to be from two iPhones, both in the Chicago area.

    Just noticed another from...

    Campaign: After-suicides-mormon-leader-rants-against-gays

    Source: Convio

    Medium: email

...this time on Firefox form Windows.
