When sending email with variants, does delivery set up order matter for receipients?

Options
We sent out an email message with 2 variants and scheduled them to go at different times. Both messages had our "seeds list" as a target group. We thought the way it worked was that the first variant to send would use the "seeds list" and the second variant would not (since Convio users can only receive a particular message once and variants of one message would be considered the same message). However, when we sent our message, our second variant was received by our "seeds list" and not our first. Does the "original message" variant trump the delivery of any duplicate groups to different variants of the same message? Or does the order you schedule the variants to drop matter when sending to the same target group?
