Public Counsel is the largest pro bono public interest law firm in the country. Founded in 1970, it is dedicated to advancing equal justice under law by delivering free legal and social services to the most vulnerable members of our community. Public Counsel’s eight programmatic areas are Appellate Law, Children’s Rights, Community Development, Consumer Law, Early Care and Education, Homelessness Prevention, Immigrants’ Rights, and Veteran’s Benefits. Public Counsel has a full-time staff of 125, including 75 staff attorneys in four offices.



JOB SUMMARY

The Database Coordinator/Bookkeeper will be responsible for working with both the Finance Department and the Development Department. The available position is for a person with a Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in a related field. Experience working in a business/fundraising office or equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.



ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Have the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment as well as independently with self-direction. Have excellent interpersonal skills, capable of maintaining cooperative relationships with coworkers and directors. Show discretion and maintain confidentiality working with personal donor records and information. Will be highly motivated, detail oriented, and well organized and also self-directive and capable of working with minimum supervision. Have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Possess a high level of comfort with functional and technical job knowledge and skills. Pursue everything with energy, drive, and a need to complete tasks in a timely manner. Fluency in American Sign Language is a bonus.



Development:
  • Responsible for accurate and efficient entry of donor and gift information in Raiser’s Edge
  • Track matching gift programs, fill out matching gift forms, verify gifts online, enter matching gift pledges in the database, and return forms to the donors
  • Assist with entry of soft credits, fundraising page updates, and matching gift updates
  • Conduct ongoing data clean-up, including identifying and merging duplicate records in Raiser’s Edge
  • Generate, edit and process gift acknowledgement, tribute, or pledge reminder letters
  • Regularly update solicitor assignments in Raiser’s Edge
  • Use the Import functionality within Raiser’s Edge to import/update constituent information, gift information actions, etc.
  • Reconcile gift data received from vendors with various merchant accounts. Research any discrepancies and communicate any donor follow up to the Development team
  • Using MS Excel and/or Access, filter import files to check for accuracy, add additional information, and/or globally change information in preparation for import into Raiser’s Edge

Finance:
  • Check and verify source documents such as invoices and receipts
  • Allocate and post financial transaction details
  • Collate account data and assist financial manager to generate financial reports
  • Maintain internal control systems
  • Data entry for payroll, checks, payments and bank deposits
  • Collect and post credit card receipts
  • Responsible for employee benefits analysis
  • Comply with reporting requirements
  • Assist with budget preparation
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly and yearly requirements to prepare W-2s, 1099s and ACA
  • Assist with audits
  • Maintain complete filing system to support financial records

Overall:
  • Advance computer skills, prior database experience, and experience with Excel and QuickBooks is preferred.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge is required and Financial Edge is preferred
  • Establish and continually revise documentation for all procedures related to this job
  • Using scans of checks and correspondence, enter all relevant donor information in the Raiser’s Edge database
  • Process various reports for other departments and vendors
  • Proactively develop personal database/software knowledge and skills through regular training, independent study and application of learning
  • Perform such other tasks and responsibilities as may be delegated by supervisors
START DATE AND COMPENSATION

This position is available immediately. The job position is 50% Database Coordinator and 50% Bookkeeper. Salary is commensurate with abilities and experience. Excellent benefits.
