This position will design and implement the charitable estate planning program for the national center including formation of an overall strategic plan and its implementation. This includes marketing charitable estate gifts and the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects, donors and advisors as appropriate. This position will also identify volunteer needs for the program while directing resources to achieve annual objectives and income goals. Follows up on all leads received from individuals requesting charitable estate planning information from the American Heart Association in the assigned territory covering Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Develops a plan for identifying and qualifying the most promising leads in order to make the best use of time and efforts. Upon qualifying, telephones and obtains appointment with the most promising prospects Tracks all prospects and donors and supplies charitable estate planning illustrations using Crescendo software when requested. Supplies information and reviews estate plans with the prospect in hopes of obtaining a gift for the Association. Recommends specific estate planning actions to achieve goals and meets with donors’ estate planner or financial advisor as appropriate Develops an annual charitable estate planning marketing plan to generate leads that also includes a component to evaluate the various marketing techniques. Works with the National Center Charitable Estate Planning Staff to coordinate and implement cultivation and solicitation of Marketing Resources Center prospects Makes presentations on gift planning ideas at affiliate board meetings each year. Trains local staff and volunteers as appropriate on estate planning strategies Establishes and maintains information in Blackbaud (customer relationship database) including those of charitable estate planning donors, prospects, volunteers and estate planning professionals. Conducts necessary follow-up with attorneys and other allied professionals regarding bequests and other charitable estate gifts as appropriate Provides consultation and information regarding estate and tax planning, estate administration and charitable giving as necessary. Must remain up-to-date on all tax law changes as they relate to charitable giving. Attends at least one professional conference annually, budget permitting. Subscribes to and reviews suggested articles and books. Attends local Planned Giving council meetings as appropriate to reaching annual goals and objectives Works with affiliate staff to coordinate charitable estate planning program activities with other organizational efforts and approaches to identify priority prospects. Keeps appropriate staff and volunteers updated on activities and progress as necessary Implements standard procedures for the tracking of charitable estate planning income. Reviews legal documents related to planned gifts as needed

 Required Experience Bachelor’s Degree At least 4 years of experience in planned giving (or individual fundraising), estate planning, working knowledge of intestacy laws, federal estate tax, federal income tax and state inheritance taxes, and estate planning strategies Successful proven record of completing gift agreements through personal interviews; public speaking skills and communication skills Comprehensive knowledge of deferred gift and estate planning vehicles Thorough knowledge of planned giving fund raising and demonstrated skills in donor relationship building and stewardship, conducting effective sales/solicitation calls and effectively closing/sales solicitations Thorough knowledge of the process of identifying prospects for planned giving, prospect/donor cultivation processes and planned gift vehicles is necessary Demonstrated ability to successfully implement planned giving strategies Ability to travel throughout the assigned territory approximately 50% and attend trainings and meetings as necessary.
