DEVELOPMENT DATABASE MANAGER

PRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE:

The Development Database Manager is responsible for the administration of the Raiser’s Edge database, including maintaining data quality and integrity, developing constituent and financial reports as it relates to the data needs of the Development Department, and oversees gift processing. Accountability includes ensuring the accuracy of constituent and financial data and implementing necessary maintenance upgrades for Blackbaud software applications.  The Database Manager will collaborate with Development staff to maximize utilization of RE and uphold and recommend best practices in RE policies and procedures.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Identify and support the data needs of Finance, Grants, Special Events, Annual Giving, Major Gifts, and Prospect Management teams.  Develop and produce queries, exports, reports related to each team’s data requirements in a timely manner.   
  2. Generate monthly financial reports from RE and reconcile with Finance team. Collaborate with Finance to create new funds or gift coding.
  3. Ensure the accuracy of constituent data and information into the database including assessment and creation of RE coding and related structures.  Execute imports and global changes when necessary. Must also be familiar with Crystal Reports. 
  4. Perform database maintenance including, but not limited to, de-duping, appending of overlay data, and system upgrades. Troubleshoot and resolve BlackBaud and other application-related software issues for site and end-users. 
  5. Directly manage the Database Coordinator by overseeing and assisting with gift entry, reviewing daily transmittals, and ensuring appropriate acknowledgements. Assist in reconciliation of gifts when necessary.  Provide training and mentoring as applicable.  Establish and evaluate performance expectations; discuss strategies to facilitate professional growth and performance improvement through direction, support and teamwork. 
  6. Develop and maintain system documentation, policies and procedures, assure quality of data, provide and implement test plans, match resources to tasks, and justify project costs. Conducts departmental workflow analysis studies and monitor them to keep them

    current. Recommend application solutions and enhancements.  Act as primary technical contact with BlackBaud and related applications.
  7. Provide initial training for new members of the development team and refresher/advanced training for existing team members.  Arm staff with basic customized queries/reports to help with their fundraising efforts. Work with development team to create systems and coding infrastructure within the database in order to increase efficiency of Development staff.  
  8. Assign appropriate access rights and ensure proper training for all new and current users. 
  9. Keep up with news and trends in database technology and development methodology. 
  10. Adhere to Development department’s policies & procedures.
PRINCIPAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Daily contact with development team members.

 
QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:  Bachelor's degree

 

Experience:  A minimum of 5 years progressive experience in Development and proficiency in Raiser’s Edge required.  Excellent knowledge of Blackbaud software applications including Raiser’s Edge, Net Community, Luminate Online and MS Office products required. Intermediate MS Excel skills preferred.
