Using the events module for volunteer sign-ups

Hi all,



Has anyone created a volunteer sign-up form using the events module and Online Express? I am trying to figure out if there is a way I can have volunteers "register" for an ongoing event in order to capture their information when they volunteer. Any thoughts? Or examples of people who have done this?

  • We have not done this specifically, but I wonder if this kind of information would be better captured in a Survey Monkey/Wufoo or other platform that allows easier reporting. I would be interested to see if others have done this in Online Express though and see how it went!

    Hi all - my organization uses the events forms in OLX to register volunteers for career fairs.  However, if there are additional details you want to capture (How did you hear of the event, in which sector does your job best fit?) you need to set those up as an event attribute.  We have not found a way to automatically connect these types of event registrations to our Vounteer module so I'm suggesting that as the next iteration for OLX - have colunteer forms (similar to event and membership forms!) that connect directly to teh volunteer module!

    I'm wondering,  how did you go about a volunteer registration that had multiple jobs?  For instance, an event that has a variety of volunteer positions.. How did you go about in posting these positions?

  • Hi SherryAnne - Most of our volunteer opportunities don't have multiple jobs  - my thought is you could create a "Choice 1; Choice 2: etc" attribute in the event record in RE each with a drop down menu of teh options for people to select.  Then you can add those attributes to the registration form. Again it's far from a perfect solution.  REALLY hoping blackbaud figures out a better system since so many of us non-profits depend on volunteers and want to make the registration as easy as possible - both for volunteers and for us on the tracking end. 

    Eventbrite may be your best option sicne it's easy to customize - but then you have to enter all the data into Raiser's Edge.

    Thank you Rachel! Attributes sounds like a good idea.


    And the idea of using Eventbrite is tempting.


    I'd like to use what we've purchased, moreso because of the amount of $$ paid for any of the Blackbaud products. So, it's frustrating that OLX is not sufficient enough for our event and volunteer needs.
