Recurring Gifts

Options
Okay new question for you. Online Express. If you create a Recurring Gifts for a credit card, where can you limit how many times a card is processed?

  • I don't believe you can.  You can include the Pledge option on your OLX donation page, which should accomplish what you're looking for, I think.

We set up our page before the ability to add multiple frequency options for Recurring Gifts, so in talking with BB OLX Support, we came up with the solution of moving the Comments section directly after the Recurring Gift section (on 3 Look & Feel) and then changing the label on the Comments box to, "Request an alternate frequency for a recurring gift:".  Right now (I just looked), I can't find where to change the label on the Comments box, though.  But if you find it, or ask BB Support where to find it, this could be a solution for you as an alternative to the Pledge option.  Or, put your Gift Attributes section directly below the Recurring Gift section and include a Gift Attribute (first in that section) to ask how many times a recurring gift is to be charged.

Then, on the Gift Record, schedule the Recurring Gift accordingly.

Also, if you are new to OLX/EFT, you need to be sure the EFT box is checked under Pay Method on the Gift Records, and you need to figure out a reminder system for yourself, because any recurring charges (Recurring Gifts or Pledge Payments) must be initiated manually by the RE User.  I am so paranoid about forgetting to run the charges on the day we have told the donor we will run the charges (and we only have 4 at present) that I have an Outlook Appointment, an Outlook Task, and a recurring entry on my To-Do list.  And once we have our Admin position filled, I'll be putting it on that person's task list (to remind me to run the charges on the 10th of the month).

Hope this helps...and if I didn't actually answer your question, let me know.
  • Jennifer, I believe that to edit the comments box title, you simply double-click the word "Comments". I know, it's counter-intuitive since the word is not highlighted or otherwise marked.
