Importing of Address Updates through AddressFinder

Options
Hi all,

Well today was a perfect reminder of not to make major updates to RE when you are being interrupted constantly!  sad

I need some help fixing the problem.  To make a long story short, when I went to update my AddressFinder updates, I didn't do it exactly right and now I have duplicate entries that are NOT preferred addresses.  It's really not a big deal because we don't really pay much attention to the old addresses, but the OCD side of me wants to get them out of there.

That's what I can't figure out.  Is there an easy way to delete address lines that have a certain "Date To"?  When you are working in Export does the "All Addresses" mean Preferred as well?  There are sections for All Address and Preferred Addresses, why isn't there a section for Non-Preferred Addresses?

I built a query that has exactly all the address lines in it that I want to change, but when I use that query to build an export, it pulls preferred addresses, etc.

Any thoughts?

  • I've done something like this, but it's been quite a while.  If I remember correctly, you need to change the Address Type and then use a Plug In (Alternate Address Deleter).

Export all of your addresses with the Constituent Import ID, Address Import ID, and Address Type fields, plus whatever else you need to figure out which ones to delete (you can export straight from the query).  Sort the exported data and create a file of just those addresses to be deleted.  Import back into RE (you only need to import the IDs and Type fields).

Once you have the new Address Type in your database for the appropriate address records, run the Plug In (should be there already if you are Hosted, you'll want to install it if you are not Hosted).  Voila!  Addresses gone.  I think you need to then go delete your new Address Type from the table.
  • Thank you, Jennifer!  The "export straight from the query" was the piece that I was missing.  I was going to Export and trying it from there. Your way is so much easier!
