Associated or Tertiary Gift Credit

Options
We are often asked by development officers to credit multiple people for a gift from a family foundation or other foundation. Sometimes it does not seem appropriate as a soft credit, so we are contemplating an "associate credit." I'm not sure how this could be entered in the system though in a way that could be reported on later. Does anyone do this? Thanks!

May I ask why does it not seem appropriate as a soft-credit?

I don't know of anyther way to credit gifts that you will be able to easily pull into queries/reports down the road.  You'd have to consider something like a gift attribute on the gift record but that definitely does not give the same functions as SC.

Am guessing someone has figured out a way to deal with this type of situation. :)
  • JoAnn, it's in the case where a D.O. wants us to credit everyone affiliated with the Foundation the gift comes from, so perhaps we want to include them on stewardship efforts, but they did not have a relationship with us or influence the gift. The person who made the arrangements and administered the gift would receive soft credit.
  • Sounds to me like a Assigned Solicitor may be a solution.  Of course it depends on their ongoing involvement and/or how you personally use solicitor relationships.  Then you have reporting ability and can indicate on a per gift basis.
