DESCRIPTION

The Major Gifts Officer will work closely with the Executive Director and Development Team to plan and implement strategy for individual major and planned gifts and donor relationship management (cultivate, steward, upgrade) to meet short and long term goals of the organization. The Major Gifts Officer plays a critical role in increasing individual donor and foundation support and acts as an ambassador for Empath Health across the community. They are responsible for overseeing the stewardship of assigned current donors and solicitation of prospective donors for annual gifts, Capital Campaign, planned gifts and any other special campaigns.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
  1. Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree and CFRE preferred. 
  2.  Superior interpersonal communication, both oral and written, required.
  3.  Excellent organizational skills required.
  4. Fundraising experience required and related work experience, including supervision of staff, working with volunteers and leading committees.  
  5. Willing to be hands-on in a role that is demanding and requires a high level of energy.  
  6. Experience and proficiency with The Raiser’s Edge and all Microsoft systems including Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
  7. Ability to create and write proposals, presentations, foundation grants and donor materials including development of case for support materials. 
  8. Requires ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize assignments in a timely manner to complete assignments when faced with competing deadlines.  
  9. Commitment to the ideals and mission of Empath Health.   
 

ESSENTIAL TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain a personal portfolio of current donors and prospects, including individuals and foundations; communicate with portfolio constituents through face-to-face solicitation and stewardship meetings, as well as written strategies; ensure that a clear strategy and timeline for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship is in place for each major donor and prospect.
  • Develop solicitation strategies for donors/prospects in support of the organizations’ annual, endowment and capital campaign, planned giving, and other giving programs; ensure strategies are compatible and maximize opportunities with other existing campaigns and appeals.
  • Conceive, plan, and execute a major gifts program.
  • Inspire support from a variety of constituent groups.
  • Support the fundraising efforts of high-level volunteers, including the Board of Directors, and senior staff in securing new and renewed gifts.
  • With the Executive Director, create and manage budgets for special campaigns; track and report on progress to goal to senior management and directors, including contacts, gifts, pledges and planned gifts.
  • Support solicitation tracking reports for all fundraisers working on special campaigns; provide meeting support materials to fundraisers and other senior management, including talking points, solicitation materials, background, and follow-up proposals.
  • Work with Foundation staff and volunteers on screening and preparing profiles of current and prospective donors; establish and refine benchmarks for department research processes.
  • Support the design and implementation of donor recognition strategies and events.  Conceive of, plan for, and execute continuous on-going stewardship program.
  • With the Executive Director, design special campaign-related events targeted to current and prospective donors.
  • Be a visible presence at Empath special events, such as receptions, major donor cultivation and public education events, and fundraisers such as the annual gala.
  •  Participate in Advancement/Development department meetings, and act as liaison to the Major Gifts volunteer committee.
  • Represent Empath Health in the community.
  • All other duties as assigned.
