Email correction

Options
I'm looking for some help correcting the email address in a group of 500 records.  I have a query set up identifying the constituent record; I also have a spreadsheet with the Constituent ID, incorrect email address and correct email address.

I want to use Import or Global Change.

I'm having trouble isolating that change.

  • Hi Christine,

Do you know what version of Raiser's Edge you have? If you can let me know, I can help you out with the change.

    Thanks!

    Shannon
  • This may change between 7.93 and 7.94.  With 7.93 I know that you'll probably need more than just the Constituent ID because the Email address is tied to the Address record.  You'd need the Address ImportID and the current Phone ImportID if you wanted to replace the existing "bad" data.

If you've got a lot of work already invested in the spreadsheet you MIGHT be able to salvage it using Access and a new export from RE (using Administration > Import > Constituent > Constituent Phones) to match up "bad" email addresses from RE with the bad addresses in the spreadsheet and tie that to the needed ImportIDs.  But unless you've got some good experiece with Access and the RE Import function, you might be better off starting from scratch with a fresh spreadsheet exported from RE with the needed information.
  • Hi,  You can use your query to create a constituent phone export file through Admin/import/new import/constituent phone and select the option to include selected records and select your query.  You can select to include all fields in the export which will then export the phone import ID.  You can then just copy /paste the corrected email addresses over the incorrect ones and then re-import them.

if you are having trouble isolating the email addresses that need changing through your query, but you have them on a spreadsheet, you can always use the V-look up function in excel to look up constituent IDs and to paste in the corrected email addresses.
  • HI all ... thanks for your help.  I endud up using IMPORT with help from Blackbaud support.
