Overview: The University System of Maryland Foundation has an immediate opening for a Training Specialist in its Advancement Services Department in College Park, MD. This position supports fundraising system training requirements across ten campuses of the University System of Maryland.

Position Responsibilities: This position supports faculty and staff in successfully putting software and technology to work in the higher education fundraising environment. The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of the IT environment, a passion for education and technology, and a commitment to our department values of teamwork, collaboration, strong attention to details, personal initiative, hardwork, creative problem solving, and fun and positive attitudes.

• Develop customized documentation, training and graphics

• Instruct, assign work, and functionally supervise staff and/or student employees engaged in similar work activities

• Test changes to the software and incorporate those changes into the online help system

• Provide support (in person, by phone, and via web-based remote support) to users. Create, update, prioritize, and track user problems using a Help Desk ticketing system;

• Assist in writing and developing department procedures, documentation, and communications;

• Communicate progress to supervisors and other project stakeholders;

• Perform other duties as required or assigned;

• Travel between campuses is required.



Position Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Instructional technology or equivalent degree and years of experience and skillset;

• Ability to summarize (in verbal and written form) technical information to a non-technical audience with enthusiasm and empathy;

• Proficiency with design tools which may include Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Wordpress, Drupal, Captivate, Final Cut Pro and other similar products

• Highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications; PC and Mac operating systems;

• Strong interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and organizational skills;

• Demonstrates critical thinking and problem solving skills;

• Demonstrates coaching abilities, efficiency, and initiative;

• Ability to perform comfortably in a deadline-oriented work environment and to execute many projects simultaneously with a high degree of quality;

• Attention to detail;

• A very strong focus on collaboration, cross-departmental teamwork, and technical proficiency is required;

• Ambition for continuous improvement and high personal performance standards.

• Prior experience in instructional design as well as familiarity with distance learning platforms and web technologies, and instructional technologies relevant to teaching and learning is very highly desirable.

Desired Skills:

• Familiarity with Fundraising concepts and processes preferred

• Experience with graphic design and/or illustration;

• Experience creating videos and video tutorials is a plus;

• Experience with web design/development

• Solid understanding of and appreciation for higher education
